What happens when a firefighter or a police officer becomes injured during their job?

As a Los Angeles personal injury attorney, this question of firefighter or police officer’s liability issue is a frequent question.  More specifically, the question is whether a firefighter or an officer can sue a victim or those involved in a situation to which they were called to help.  Some government officers such as firefighters and police officers are undertaking risky daily duties by the nature of their employment.  What happens when they become injured during a rescue or an arrest?  Should they be… Read more

A motorcyclist killed from a crash on 405 North Freeway

As a Los Angeles motorcycle accident attorney, I was saddened to hear about a motorcyclist being killed in an accident on 405 Northbound freeway in Mission Hills.  This accident occurred in the carpool lane of the freeway, which caused shutting down of the carpool and several lanes of the freeway.  The cause of the accident has not been determined yet as the California Highway Patrol is currently investigating the crash.  Motorcycle accidents can be deadly.  In many cases, motorcycle accidents occur because of… Read more

Los Angeles red-light traffic camera system no longer enforced while Orange county cities continue with it

As a Los Angeles car accident attorney, I am happy to announce that beginning tomorrow (Sunday) midnight, Los Angeles city traffic violations by red-light camera will no longer be enforced. Originally estimated city revenue surplus from utilizing camera enforcement system somehow did not work in Los Angeles, causing 1.5 million dollars a year in loss. However, cities in Orange County such as Garden Grove, Laguna Woods, Los Alamitos, San Juan Capistrano and Santa Ana are continuing to use the red-light camera enforcement system… Read more

LA County paid $810,000 to Andrew Bagsiao’s family for forklift accident

I read an article involving a vicarious liability involving negligence.  As a Los Angeles personal injury lawyer, I thought I would discuss this on the blog.  Los Angeles County Supervisors allowed compensation of $810,000 to the family of Andrew Bagsiao, an 86-year-old man who was killed by a forklift near USC Medical Center.  Mr. Bagsiao was a pedestrian at the time of the accident and the forklift was operated by a county employee and was carrying a waste bin.  Bagsiao’s adult children claimed… Read more

North Hollywood Man Daniel Don Curtis, 27 year old killed by taxi on Highland Avenue

Daniel Don Curtis, 27 was killed by a taxicab on Highland Avenue south of Hollywood Boulevard.  Highland Ave. was closed after the accident.

We give sincere condolences to the family of Mr. Curtis for the loss.  As a Los Angeles wrongful death attorney, I would say this case may involve wrongful death case assuming the taxicab driver was at fault.  Wrongful death compensates the victim’s family for the loss of happiness, consortium and any lost wages.  Wrongful death trial is a very emotional… Read more

The officer who was killed in an early morning accident on April 24 on the 101 Freeway in Sherman Oaks was Jose Diance-Cruz of Sylmar, 23 year old male.  This accident was a tragic one and came to my attention as a Los Angeles car accident lawyer.

Dr. Howard Engle, a Florida pediatrician and lifelong smoker whose tobacco lawsuit resulted in the largest punitive damage award in U.S. history, died Wednesday at his home in Miami Beach. He was 89.

In 2000, his class-action suit resulted in a jury awarding $145 billion in punitive damages against tobacco companies.  It was the largest punitive damages award in U.S. history.

Ruling that thousands of smokers covered by the Engle case must prove damages, the Florida Supreme Court overturned that verdict as excessive, individually.… Read more
